Women’s Basketball Falls to Aurora on the Road

AURORA, Illinois – The MSOE women's basketball team erased a six-point halftime deficit to lead in the third quarter but could not fend off Aurora in falling 58-52 Tuesday night on Lancaster Court.

The Raiders (5-7, 3-4 NACC) held close with the Spartans (4-7, 2-4 NACC) despite shooting under 30 percent for the game.

Senior Shaylan Reardon scored a team-best 14 points. Junior Jamie Spanbauer finished with 11 points and sophomore Kayla Barreto added 10 in the contest.

Alyssa Brems paced Aurora with 18 points. Adriana Ramirez had a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds while Meija Rabi chipped in 10 points.

MSOE got off to a cold start shooting, finishing at 20.8 percent in the opening half, but stayed close at the free throw line. The Red & White shot 9-for-11 at the charity stripe to stay within 26-20 at the break.

The teams traded buckets to start the third quarter before Barreto and junior Kiana Jeremiah hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 31-31. Barreto followed with a layup for the Raiders' first lead of the night.

They last led at 37-35 on two free throws by senior Nicole Kahnk before Aurora rattled off seven-straight points to take the lead for good.

MSOE shot 33.3 percent in the second half to finish at 28.1 percent for the game. The team also remained hot at the free throw line to finish a strong 16-for-19. The Spartans shot 40 percent from the field.

The Raiders are back in action Saturday at Benedictine.
