Women’s Basketball Falls at Concordia Chicago

RIVER FOREST, Illinois – Junior Jamie Spanbauer scored 19 points and senior Shaylan Reardon had 12 in the MSOE women's basketball team's 85-59 loss to Concordia Chicago Wednesday evening at Geiseman Gymnasium.

The Raiders (8-14, 6-11 NACC) and Cougars (16-6, 12-5 NACC) were tied at 29-29 just past the midway point of the second quarter before the home team ran away with the game.

Junior Kiana Jeremiah added eight points and sophomore Kayla Barreto scored seven off the bench. Junior Samantha Brooker battled foul trouble to pull down 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action, her second-straight double-digit rebounding game and seventh of the season.

Taylor Jacobsen scored a game-high 21 points for Concordia Chicago. Sophia Leon had 14 off the bench and Crystal Corr finished with 13.

The game was tight early on, as the teams were tied at 14-14 after seven minutes. CUC then attempted to pull away with a 7-0 run to end the quarter. MSOE responded in kind, opening the second quarter with a 10-0 run for a 24-21 advantage.

Junior Myles Grandstaff hit a layup at the 4:44 mark of the second quarter to tie the game once again at 29-29 before the Cougars pulled away for good. The scored the final 16 points of the frame for a 45-29 halftime advantage before a 40-30 scoring edge in the second half put the game away.

MSOE shot 31.3 percent on the night, hitting 9-of-30 three-pointers. The team did shoot 10-for-13 at the free throw line and carve out a 41-36 rebounding advantage, including 16 offensive boards. Concordia shot 46.6 percent overall and 46.2 percent from beyond the arc. The home team made 19-of-22 free throws in the game.

The Raiders return to the court Saturday at Rockford.
