PLYMOUTH, Wisconsin – The MSOE women's basketball suffered a 60-47 defeat at the hands of Lakeland Saturday afternoon at Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Raiders (6-4, 4-2 NACC) fell victim to a second-quarter run that propelled the host Muskies (9-2, 5-1 NACC) into the lead for good.
Megan Will led Lakeland with 16 points and Miranda Jacobson chipped in 11.
MSOE jumped out early before the game became a back-and-forth affair through the first quarter and a half. The turning point came after sophomore Britta Grayvold hit a three-pointer at 6:32 of the second quarter to make it a 17-17 game. The hosts then answered with 10-straight points to seize momentum in the game.
Lakeland's lead would peak at 16 points at 41-25 in the third quarter before the Raiders were able to get into a rhythm. They scored the next nine points to pull within 42-35 and entered the fourth quarter trailing by just seven at 44-37.
Unfortunately, six quick points to open the final period by LU built its lead into double-digits again and MSOE was unable to rebound.
The Raiders shot 35.3 in the game, including just 6-for-25 from three-point range. They were less fortunate in the paint, where Lakeland was able to forge a 38-16 scoring advantage. The Muskies sot 45.5 percent for the game, hitting on 5-of-14 three-point attempts.
There was just 14 combined free throw attempts in the game with the Red & White finishing a tidy 5-for-6.
MSOE returns to the floor Wednesday, hosting Concordia Wisconsin.
