MILWAUKEE – The MSOE wrestling team claimed wins at 9-of-10 bouts, including falls from senior Austin Bellile, sophomore Jimmy Cushman, and freshman Drew Matticks, in rolling past Lakeland 47-3 Friday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (2-3) scored the first 38 points of the night against the Muskies, who forfeited matches at three weights.
Forfeits at 125 and 133 pounds started the dual before Cushman took the mat for the 141-pound bout. The second-year wrestler led 7-2 before securing a fall 3:53 into the match. It was the first pin of his career.
Another forfeit at 149 pounds followed. Sophomore Jack Rathburn then won at 157 pounds to make it 27-0. At 165 pounds, Matticks was pulling away with a 9-1 lead before pinning his opponent at the 6:01 mark. The win clinched the match for the Raiders.
Freshman Helton Vandenbush won his ninth-straight match with a 16-1 technical fall in just 3:29 at 174 pounds.
Lakeland would score its lone victory on the night at 184 pounds before freshman Duncan Heath countered with an 11-5 decision victory at 197 pounds.
In the final match of the night, Bellile made his season debut and needed just 1:05 to score a fall of his opponent and complete the rout.
The Raiders return to action at the Pete Willson Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
