WHEATON, Illinois – Senior Austin Bellile won his first four matches at the Pete Willson Invitational and freshman Helton Vandenbush placed third at the Harper Open over a busy weekend for the MSOE wrestling team.

At the Willson Invite, which ran Friday and Sunday, the Raiders placed 24th out of 25 teams. The Harper Open was Saturday only and featured just underclassmen.

Bellile hit the ground running at 285 pounds, picking up big wins in each of his first three matches Friday. He opened with a 17-2 technical fall before back-to-back pins in 3:40 and 1:05, respectively. He then went up against the No. 3 seed in the bracket, scoring a 14-6 major decision over a wrestler that was rated a "contender" in the weight class by D3wrestle.

Saturday, Bellile did not compete, officially surrendering medical forfeits in each of his matches to take sixth.

In the 174-pound bracket at the Harper Open, Vandenbush pushed his winning streak to 11-straight matches by winning his first two bouts of the day. He opened with a 9-0 shutout for a major decision, then advanced with a tight 10-9 win. He was bounced to the third-place bout with his first loss of the 2018 calendar year. Once there, Vandebush ground out another one-point win, 3-2, to take third place.

Freshman Preston Makoutz won a pair of matches at Harper and five other wrestlers posted a single win on the weekend. Wrestling at 133 pounds, Makoutz picked up a 13-9 win in his first match before suffering a loss. He bounced back with a 4-3 win before capping his weekend with his second loss.

At the Willson Invite, junior Ryan Snyder, sophomore Jack Rathburn, and freshman Drew Matticks were winners. Rathburn's win was a 3-0 shutout in his first bout at 157 pounds. Snyder rebounded for a decisive 16-0 tech fall in his second match at 184 pounds and Matticks also scored his win in his second 165-pound outing, a 9-0 major decision.

Freshmen Alex Moran and Grant Mulkerin tallied wins at Harper, each in their second match. Moran had an 8-2 win at 165 pounds and Mulkerin posted a 9-2 win at 184.
