Wrestling Sixth in the Nation for GPA

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE wrestling team is sixth in the nation in the National Wrestling Coaches Association team grade point average standings, the organization announced Thursday.

The Raiders boast a team GPA of 3.554 and had two student-athletes earn national All-Academic individual honors in senior Austin Bellile and freshman Helton Vandenbush.

Bellile is 11-0 this season at 285 pounds and is bound for the NCAA Championships this weekend in Cleveland. He repeated as CCIW Champion and strolled through the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional championships to take first place there, as well. He won three of his four matches via falls in under 1:00. His first-place bout was settled in just 0:49.

Bellile has now earned the award in each of his four seasons. He graduated with his bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering and working towards his master's degree.

Vandenbush had an outstanding first college season. He went 31-9 at 174 pounds this season, tying Bellie's MSOE freshman record for wins in a season. He won a CCIW title and took fifth at regionals. In the classroom, he's a mechanical engineering major.
