Women’s Soccer Continues to Roll With Win at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wisconsin – Three different players scored goals and junior Mary McFee posted her fourth shutout of the season as the MSOE women's soccer team defeated Marian 3-0 at Smith Field.

The Raiders (12-3-1, 7-0 NACC) got goals from seniors Sara Travia, Aly Loepfe and junior Melina Lynn to down the Sabres (4-9, 2-5 NACC) and remain perfect in conference play.

Travia opened the scoring in just the third minute, capitalizing on a deft through ball from senior Caitlin Liddiard to create a breakaway and beat the keeper for her league-leading 13th goal of the season. Despite a 10-3 advantage in shots, it was the only goal of the half for MSOE as it went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Liddiard's assist gives her 100 career points, the fourth Raider woman to reach the milestone. She entered the night on 99 career points, scoring at least a point in her third-straight game and has now registered points in six of the last seven games.

Lynn doubled the lead midway through the second half. After scoring twice on Saturday, she got on the end of a centering cross from Travia and beat the keeper to make it 2-0 in the 67th minute.

Loepfe would go on to add an insurance goal for the Raiders. Senior Anna O'Donnell slipped a through ball past the defense into the box and put Loepfe 1v1 with the keeper in the 85th minute.

MSOE finished with a 13-6 shot advantage, including 5-1 in shots on goal. McFee stopped the only shot she faced, while combining with her back line for the team's sixth shutout of the season.

With the win, the Red & White officially clinched their place in the NACC Tournament. The team also moved into a tie for first place with 21 points with Edgewood (7-1), which has a game in hand.

The Raiders return to the field Wednesday, hosting Lakeland at Viets Field.
