Women’s Soccer Storms Past LFC For First Win

LAKE FOREST, Illinois - The MSOE women's soccer team scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat Lake Forest 3-1 for its first win of the season Friday afternoon at Farwell Field.

The Raiders (1-3) struck for the game's first goal in just the seventh minute, but played at a stalemate after the Forester's (0-4) tied the match just under 10 minutes later.

Senior Aly Loepfe, sophomore Jeray Riffel, and freshman Gracie Horton each found the back of the net, with Horton's first collegiate goal standing up as the game-winner.

It was Loepfe's early score which staked MSOE out to an early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, Charlotte Jackson equalized for LFC in the 17th minute.

The teams remained at a deadlock well into the late stages of the match, when the Raiders drew a foul. Senior Kelsey Hailey found Horton with the set piece and the rookie finally broke tie in the 81st minute.

Riffel tacked on an insurance goal just into the final minute of regulation. She finished off an assist from freshman Brooke Zidek to make it 3-1.

Sophomore Allison Lessila made her first collegiate start in goal and stopped four shots for the win.

Lake Forest held a slight 9-8 shot advantage in the game.

The Raiders return to the field Sunday, hosting Knox at 1 p.m.
