MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Dominican in its league opener Wednesday night at Viets Field.
The Raiders (2-7, 0-1 NACC) trailed 3-0 at halftime but came out on the offensive and controlled much of the second half despite not being able to catch the Stars (10-0-1, 3-0 NACC) on the scoreboard.
Dominican scored twice in the opening 15 minutes as MSOE struggled to find its footing early on but came to life after the second visitor goal. Unfortunately, the pressure did not lead to a first-half goal and the Stars tacked on an insurance goal just before the break.
The Red & White went right at Dominican in the second half and had the league leaders on the back foot for much of the period.
Freshman Brooke Zidek got her side on the board just over two minutes after halftime with her first collegiate goal. She took a lay-off pass from senior Aly Loepfe at the top of the box and beat the keeper to the far post.
The Raiders kept pressuring Dominican but could get no closer.
Shots went 11-9 in favor of the visitors with a much more lopsided 9-1 advantage in corner kicks going that way, as well.
The Raiders return to the field Saturday, looking for their first league win at Alverno.
