MILWAUKEE – Freshman Brooke Zidek scored two goals to lead a four-goal output by the freshman class in the MSOE women's soccer team's decisive 4-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.
The Raiders (5-7, 3-1 NACC) knocked off the Warriors (4-8, 2-2 NACC) for their third-straight win, having scored 18 goals in that time.
On Senior Day, where 11 seniors were honored on the field following the game, it was three freshmen tallying goals for the Red & White. In addition to Zidek's brace, Gracie Horton scored the opener and Nora Adkins capped the scoring.
Horton opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Loepfe played a diagonal ball out wide to Horton, who was running at goal unmarked. The rookie then beat the keeper from 15 yards out for a 1-0 led.
Another Loepfe through ball in the 23rd minute sprang Zidek free and she blasted a shot from the top of the box to double the advantage.
Less than a minute after halftime, Zidek made it 3-0 with a run down the far side that carried into the box. She then slotted a shot far post to beat the keeper.
Adkins' came through in the 72nd minute to make it a four-goal game. She tracked a diagonal ball by Schultz into the box, picked her shot, and one-timed the pass into the net for her fifth goal of the season.
Zidek has now scored in each of the last four games, netting five times in that span to tie Leopfe and Adkins for the team lead this season. She finished the match with seven shots, including five on goal. The team held a commanding 29-7 shot advantage, as well as an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Raiders have a short break before returning to action Monday at Edgewood. The game is a makeup of a postponed match started September 20 in Madison.
