GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – The MSOE women's soccer team was beaten for a goal in the dying seconds of the first half and was unable to recover in suffering a 1-0 loss to Calvin Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field.
The Raiders (0-2) fell short in a rematch of the 2015 NCAA Tournament First Round contest against the Knights (2-0), a 3-2 victory for the home team on this same field.
Calvin had the lion's share of opportunities in the match but the Red & White held strong to stay in the game. The Knights, however, were able to capitalize with 11 seconds to go before halftime to secure the game's lone goal.
MSOE conceded a13-4 shot advantage and withstood a 12-3 discrepancy in corner kicks. Junior Allison Lessila made the start in goal and stopped two shots.
The Raiders return to action Wednesday with their home opener against Carthage at Viets Field.
