MILWAUKEE – Freshman Jill Ruark scored two goals to lead the MSOE women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Lake Forest Thursday night at Viets Field.
The Raiders (2-4) picked up their second shutout of the season as junior Abbie Lorenz stopped all seven of the Foresters' (3-4) shots on goal.
Ruark tallied a goal in each half, opening the scoring in just the seventh minute. Freshman Veronica Mangio set up her first goal, springing her attacking partner with a pass past her defender. Ruark took the pass and beat the keeper with a shot well wide of her reach to the far post.
It was the only shot of the half for the Red & White as their strong play in the midfield was not reflected on the stat sheet. There, the Foresters gained a 6-1 shot advantage.
The Raiders turned their possession advantage into more chances in the second half and Ruark doubled the advantage in the 71st minute. This time it was freshman Hailey Malloy with a pass out of the midfield. Ruark was able to run on to the ball and, with her first touch, chip the keeper from 15 yards.
MSOE outshot LFC 7-3 in the second half, putting three shots on target. The home side also forced six corner kicks in the game to the Foresters' two.
Among the seven stops for Lorenz was a pair of lunging stops on dangerous shots.
The Raiders return to the field Saturday at North Park.
