MILWAUKEE - Junior Jeray Riffel had two goals and three assists to lead 12 players with points as the MSOE women's soccer team scored a decisive 10-0 victory over Alverno Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.
The Raiders (5-7, 2-2 NACC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead at halftime and outshot the Inferno (3-7, 0-4 NACC) 68-0 for the match.
Sophomore Nora Adkins also tallied a pair of goals for the Red & White. Freshmen accounted for five more goals, as Veronica Mangio, Lyndie Krueger, and Dede Zweifel each netted their first collegiate scores. Freshmen Jill Ruark and Hailey Malloy rounded out the goal-scorers.
MSOE was in total control throughout the match, peppering the Alverno goal with 39 shots and 19 shots on goal in the first half. Ruark opened the scoring in just the fourth minute and Mangio followed in the 11th. Riffel got her first goal in the 16th minute and assisted on Adkins' first just 30 seconds later.
It was then an own goal that gave the Raiders three goals in less than four minutes. Another two scores in quick succession established the halftime advantage. Malloy and Zweifel struck just 1:06 apart in the 35th and 36th minutes.
The Red & White was much more conservative and methodical with their attack in the second half. Riffel's second goal at exactly the 58-minute mark opened the scoring. Adkins scored again just over five minutes later and Kreuger capped the scoring in the 81st minute.
Of the Raiders' 68 shots in the match, 37 were on target forcing the Inferno keeper in 27 saves.
The Raiders return to the field Wednesday at Marian.
