UPDATE: MSOE forfeited the match due to use of an ineligible student-athlete
CHICAGO – Freshman Nikki Ratts scored the go-ahead goal in the 70th minute to send the MSOE women's soccer team to a fourth-straight berth into the NACC Championship with a 2-1 victory over Illinois Tech Tuesday evening at Stuart Field.
The No. 3 Raiders (13-9) were able to avenge a regular-season loss to the second-seeded Scarlet Hawks (14-5-1) and advance to the title match against No. 1 Dominican Saturday. MSOE and DU will meet for the tournament crown for the third-straight season.
Ratts put the Red & White ahead from a corner kick in the 70th minute. Junior Jeray Riffel sent the set piece past the far post where Ratts sent the ball into the goal. It was her first collegiate goal.
The Raiders came out aggressive early, breaking through for the game's opening goal in the 37th minute. Senior Shelby Namen registered her second goal of the season off a free kick from 30 yards out. Her attempt on goal proved to be too much to handle and the keeper spilled it across the goal line.
MSOE outshot Tech 6-1 in the opening half but the hosts were able to equalize on their lone attempt of the period. The tying goal came just 1:22 after Namen's strike and sent the game into halftime level at 1-1.
The Red & White finished with a 10-5 shot advantage for the match, including 4-3 in shots on goal. Corner kicks went 6-1 in favor of Illinois Tech.
Junior Allison Lessila picked up the win in goal with a pair of saves in the second half. She helped the Raiders withstand added pressure by the Scarlet Hawks in the second half. Junior Abbie Lorenz played the opening half.
