Women’s Tennis Doubles Up WLC in NACC Opener

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's tennis team opened league play with a 6-3 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday morning at McKinley Park.

The Raiders (2-0, 1-0 NACC) swept the three doubles points from the Warriors (1-3, 0-1 NACC), then claimed wins in three of the top four singles positions to secure the victory.

Carly Grant, Sammy Soeder, and Katie Clements were each double-winners on the day.

Grant and Soeder teamed at No. 1 doubles for an 8-5 win, then scored victories in the top two singles spots. For Soeder, it was smooth sailing in a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Grant and Clements, playing at No. 4 singles, gutted out three-set matches to secure the match for MSOE. Grant opened with a 6-4 win, then rebounded from a 6-2 loss in set two to win the tiebreaker 6-2. For Clements, it a rally from an opening 7-5 loss to claim the second set 6-4 and the tie-breaker convincingly 6-1.

The pairings of Clements and Cierra Smith at No. 2 doubles and Kim Baffin and Cali Bonie at No. 3 doubles rounded out the Raiders' winners. Both duos won by the score of 8-4.

MSOE returns to the court Saturday with a pair of league matches, hosting Dominican at 10 a.m. and Aurora at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at McKinley Park on the lakefront.
