Women’s Tennis Clinches Third Place With Split

SHEBOYGAN, Wisconsin – The MSOE women's tennis team split its final two matches of the fall season and, in doing so, clinched third place in the league standings and the No. 3 see in the spring conference tournament.

The Raiders (9-5, 6-3 NACC) extending their school record for wins in a season with a morning 7-2 victory at Lakeland. They then fell to Concordia Wisconsin on the road in the afternoon, 9-0.

MSOE dominated doubles and the top of the singles lineup against the Muskies.

Senior Carly Grant and sophomore Sammy Soeder teamed for a hard-fought 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles. Then, in the singles competition, Grant won at No. 1 6-2, 6-0, and Soeder scored a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2.

Freshmen Cierra Smith and Katie Clements also swept their singles and doubles points in the match. They teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles before each winning their singles matches. Smith fended off her opponent at No. 3, 7-5 in the first set, then put her away 6-0 in the second. For Clements, it was a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3.

The doubles pairing of junior Cali Bonie and sophomore Kim Baffin also put a bow on their fall campaign, defeating their opponents at No. 3 doubles 8-3.

At 6-3, MSOE finished in a tie with Wisconsin Lutheran and potentially Marian. Should Marian lose a match, the Raiders claim a head-to-head tiebreaker with WLC. With MU wins out, the Red & White prevail via score differential in the head to head matches. MSOE defeated WLC 6-3 and fell to Marian 5-4.
