WAUKESHA, Wisconsin – The MSOE women's tennis team fell in a hotly-contested season opener, 7-2, to Carroll Friday morning at its home courts.
The Raiders (0-1) picked up a point each out of doubles and singles play against the Pioneers (1-0), playing competitively in almost every position up and down the lineup.
Sophomore Katie Clements picked up where she left off in 2017-18 when she tied a school record with 14 singles wins. Playing at No. 3 singles, she picked up a 7-5, 0-6, 10-8 win. In doubles play, she and sophomore Cierra Smith were edged in the No. 2 position, 8-6.
The Raiders did give the Pioneers many easy points in the match, as Smith forced a third set at No. 4 singles and junior Olivia Boden fell in a tight match 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5.
The Red & White returns to the courts with a modified schedule Saturday. Due to inclement weather, the clay event it had scheduled at Town Club has been moved to Elite Club River Glen and will feature matches against Lake Forest and Loras beginning at 12 p.m.
