NAPERVILLE, Illinois – Junior Becky Sondelski handily broke the school record for the women's 3000m steeplechase to highlight action for the MSOE men's and women's track & field teams at the Dr. Keeler Invitational Friday at North Central College.
Sondelski ran a time of 11:32.17 for 23rd place in the steeplechase. In addition to being a personal best by over 28 seconds, she also eclipsed the school record in the event by 12 seconds. Kate Herrmann had set the mark of 11:44 in 2012.
Freshman Nick Bath competed in the men's steeplechase event and ran 10:39.02 for 55th place.
Sophomore Jerica Kotarak posted the top finish of the day, taking fifth in the triple jump. She leaped 37-6 3/4 in the event and was the second Division III jumper in the standings behind three athletes from Division II schools.
In the javelin, sophomore Maia Heineck was 12th on the women's side and senior Austin Wright was 13th among the men. Heineck threw 113-6 and Wright posted a distance of 152-5.
Junior Lizzy Hilby also competed at the meet, running the 400m. She crossed the line in a time of 1:04.27 for 27th place.
The Raiders have one more last chance qualifier, as some athletes will return to NCC for the Gregory Invitational next Thursday and Friday.
