GENEVA, Ohio - Sophomore Jerica Kotarak of the MSOE women's track & field team took 10th in the long jump at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday afternoon at the SPIRE Institute.
Competing at her fourth NCAA meet, Kotarak finished with a final distance of 18-1, missing advancing to the finals as part of the top nine by just 1.5 inches. She was in the second heat and opened with a jump of 17-4 to sit in 13th place after the first round. A distance of 17-11 3/4 in round two moved her up to 11th place.
Entering her final jump, she needed to surpass 18-2 1/2 to advance to the finals but came up just short with a leap of 18-1. The 10th-place finish was her best national finish in the long jump. She'd taken 11th at each of the last two indoor meets and was 14th outdoors last season.
