Kotarak, Thilges Combine for Three Wins at Ripon

RIPON, Wisconsin – Junior Jerica Kotarak won two events and junior Kayla Thilges topped the 800m to lead the MSOE women's track & field to second place at the Red Hawk Invitational Saturday at Ripon College

The Raiders finished with 81.6 team points for second place in the nine-team field, edging third-place Carroll by 2.4 points.

Kotarak continued her hot start to the season, remaining perfect in horizontal jumps and doing so by considerable lengths. She won the long jump by 19.5 inches with her leap of 18-4 1/2 and followed that up with a triple jump of 37-5 to take top honors. Her triple jump was a winner by 13.5 inches over second place.

Senior Desy Echevarria also scored in the long jump, placing sixth at 15-5, while senior Lea Buchholz joined Kotarak in scoring during the triple jump with a lead of 32-9 placing her sixth.

In the 800m, Thilges paced the field by 2.57 seconds with her winning time of 2:49.14.

Senior Jessica Bilskie is another athlete with a strong start to the indoor campaign, contributing three scoring efforts on the day. She was runner-up in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.53 and cleared 9-8 in the pole vault for third place. Bilskie was also a part of the 4x400m relay that finished fourth. She was joined by Echevarria, senior Holly Denfeld, and junior Patty Bray.

Buchholz led a contingent of five Red & White scorers in the high jump as runner-up in the event. She cleared a height of 4-9 while three teammates were tied for fourth at 4-7 in senior Rachel Lynde, junior Maia Heineck, and freshman Katie Haim. Junior Bianca Trombley tied for seventh place with her height of 4-5.

Haim added another scoring effort in the 60m and junior Brianne Harris scored in the weight throw to round out the team's scorers. Haim ran 8.57 for sixth place while Harris threw 42-5 1/4 in the weight throw and took sixth.

The day's three wins run the team's total number of wins this season to 12 over four-plus meets. Kotarak has won five times while Bilskie and Buchholz have two wins each to lead the team.

The Raiders are back in action next Saturday at the UW-Platteville Invitational. It will be their second trip to UWP in three weeks.
