Women’s Track & Field Wins Three at Beloit Relays

BELOIT, Wisconsin – Junior Jerica Kotarak won a pair of events and junior Rachel Ruona topped the high jump to lead the MSOE women's track & field team at the Beloit Relays Saturday at Strong Stadium.

The Raiders scored 108.5 team points to take fourth in the 13-team field.

Kotarak won both the long and triple jump events. She leaped 17-1 1/2 in the long jump and 36-11 in the triple jump. Senior Lea Buchholz also scored in the triple jump, taking seventh at 33-3 1/4.

Ruona has been competing in several events at each meet this spring to gear up for multi-event competitions. At Beloit, she won the high jump and scored in two other events. In the high jump, she cleared 4-7 1/2. Senior Rachel Lynde and freshman Michaela Baraglia also cleared that height but placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Junior Bianca Trombley rounded out four Red & White scorers in the event tied for seventh at 4-5 1/2.

Ruona also placed sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:37.77 and was eighth in the javelin at 98-3. Junior Maia Heineck took second in the javelin with a throw of 117-11 and Buchholz was fifth with a distance of 101-4.

Senior Jessica Bilskie led a trio of MSOE scorers in the hurdles events, taking second in both distances. She ran 15.62 in the 100m hurdles while senior Desy Echevarria was fifth in 17.02, just edging senior Holly Denfeld in sixth at 17.09. In the 400m event, Bilskie ran 1:08.72. Echevarria posted a time of 1:14.92 for sixth place and Denfeld was eighth in 1:15.84.

Bilskie also scored in the pole vault, taking fifth with a height of 9-2 1/4.

The hurdlers also formed the team's 4x100m relay alongside Baraglia. The quartet took fifth with a time of 52.38.

The Raiders have had an abbreviated spring slate of meets due to weather and are now headed to the NACC Championships May 4-5 in Lisle, Illinois.
