Kotarak Improves National Standing at NCAA Final Qualifier

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin – Junior Jerica Kotarak of the MSOE women's track & field team won the long jump and likely qualified for the NCAA Championships in the event while competing Thursday at the NCAA Final Qualifier hosted by UW-La Crosse.

Kotarak entered the meet outside the top 30 in the long jump and inside the top 20 in the triple jump. She headed to the meet with a goal of solidifying her triple jump standing and leaping into the qualification picture for the long jump.

The first of her two events was the long jump. She went 18-0 1/2 and 18-3 3/4 in her first two leaps. She stood first in the event but neither surpassed her season-best leap of 18-5 1/4. After a short jump and back-to-back fouls, she hit 19-0 on her final attempt of the competition. In addition to winning the event by 13 inches, she also vaulted to No. 7 in the nation in the event.

In the triple jump, she placed sixth with a jump 37-11 1/4. She will now rely on her school-record distance of 38-4 3/4 from the NACC Championships to earn her a qualification.

The NCAA Championships are May 24-26 and are hosted by UW-La Crosse.
