Lynde Leads Women's Volleyball to Day Two Split at LFC

LAKE FOREST, Illinois – Senior Rachel Lynde reached double-figures in kills in two matches as the MSOE women's volleyball team split a pair of matches for the second-straight day to open the season Saturday afternoon at the Lake Forest Invitational.

The Raiders (2-2) made it back-to-back wins with a four-set victory over Finlandia in the opener, 25-19, 29-15, 25-20, 25-21. They then fell to Dubuque 25-19, 25-13, 25-23, to finish out the weekend.

Sophomore setter Allie Laurent was subsequently named to represent MSOE on the LFC All-Tournament team.

Lynde notched 13 kills in the opening win while freshman Megan Brock finished six kills. Laurent and senior Abby Born split the setting duties in the match. Laurent tallied 15 assists and seven digs and Born had 14 assists and six digs.

Senior Aleah Quast led the defensive effort with 13 digs. The Lions were stymied to the tune of just a .021 hitting percentage in the match.

MSOE got off to a quick start, jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the opening set and never looking back. Finlandia would tie the match after breaking an 18-18 tie in set two with a 7-1 run to close out the frame.

The third set found itself in the same place, tied at 18-18, only it was the Raiders prevailing this time. They took a 2-1 lead with a 7-2 run to end the game. Then, in set four, MSOE turned around a 6-5 deficit with six-straight points to take the lead for good, holding off its opponents and claiming the match.

The Red & White offense hit its stride in the contest, hitting .115 after finishing strong with a .231 percentage in the final set.

Unfortunately, a clicking offense was not enough against the Spartans. Dubuque hit .274 as a team to negate a season-best .124 by the Raiders.

Lynde had another 11 kills to go with seven digs. Brock again finished with six kills, adding eight digs. Born flew solo in directing the offense and had 22 assists, six digs, and a pair of service aces.

The Raiders are back in action Wednesday, playing at Ripon.
