RIPON, Wisconsin – The MSOE women's volleyball team rallied from an opening set loss to win three-straight frames and score a 22-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 victory over Ripon Wednesday evening at Weiske Gymnasium.
The Raiders (3-2) increased their season-best hitting percentage for the third-straight match and tallied 10 blocks in upending the Redhawks (1-4) on the road.
Three other back row defenders reached double-figures in digs with senior Aleah Quast notching a team-best 22. Sophomore Heather Dukat tallied eight kills and 19 digs. Senior setter Abby Born finished with 11 digs, 32 assists, and five kills.
Ripon was held below .100 attacking for the night and was led by Emily Allard's 10 kills.
After the home team won the opening set, MSOE went to work, shutting down the Redhawks in the second frame in a 25-15 win. Ripon hit .000 as the visitors jumped out to 7-2 lead and never looked back in building a 20-11 advantage. RC clawed within 20-14 when the Red & White rattled off four-straight points to put the frame out of reach.
The third game was back and forth with the Raiders holding only a slight 20-18 advantage when they closed out the set with five-straight points for a 2-1 lead in the match. In the final period, MSOE went on a 6-2 run to overcome a 14-13 deficit and take the lead for good at 19-16. Ripon would pull within 19-18, but that's as close as it would get. The Red & White answered with another 6-2 spurt to claim the match.
MSOE hit .148 on the night and held the Redhawks to just .053.
The Raiders now return home for the MSOE Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Kern Center. They open the tourney Friday at 4 p.m. against Beloit.
