MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team built a 2-0 lead in the match but could not hold off Edgewood in falling 23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-10 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (10-13, 2-4) went toe-to-toe with the Eagles (10-11, 5-1 NACC) but could not hang on in the match.

Senior Rachel Lynde led three players in double-digits for kills for MSOE with 14. Junior Hannah Pekarek had 11 kills and 22 digs while junior Elsey Kohlmann contributed 10 kills and five blocks.

Savannah Koester had 12 kills for Edgewood, with Mackenzie Hannah adding 11 and Renee Meister 10.

The Raiders took control of each of the first two games midway through the frames and they held off the Eagles to forge a 2-0 lead in the match. Then, in the third, EC answered a quick start by the Red & White with an 11-3 run to start to pull away. MSOE battled back within one late, but that is as close as it would get.

The fourth set was another tight contest with the visitors using a 5-0 run early to break a tie and play from the front. The Raiders pulled within one on multiple occasions, including at 23-22, but could not pull even.

MSOE opened the decisive fifth set with a 6-2 run, but the Eagles quickly answered with four-straight points. The Raiders still led 9-8 when EC scored the next five points as part of a 7-1 run to close out the match.

MSOE hit just a hair under .200 for the match at .199 compared to .194 for Edgewood.

The Raiders returns to action Friday at Concordia Chicago.
