BELOIT, Wisconsin – Junior Patty Bray took second to lead the MSOE women's cross country to victory at the Olde English Classic Saturday morning at Beloit College.
The Raiders scored 49 points to edge the host Buccaneers by two points for the top spot in the five-team field.
Running on a 5000m course with hay bales for hurdling, Bray turned in a time of 22:01.4 to finish as runner-up.
All five MSOE's scorers were among the top 16, as senior Alex Muench was ninth, freshman Lexi Maruga 12th, junior Kayla Thilges 13th, and senior Desy Echevarria in 16th. Muench posted a time of 23:47.9. Maruga beat out Thilges by just under 10 seconds with a time of 24:03.9, ahead of Thilges' 24:13.2. Echevarria crossed the line in 24:33.2.
Two more counting runners ran just outside the top 20 in sophomore Morgan Balog and freshman Jenny Leonard, finishing together in 21st and 22nd places. Balog posted a time of 24:52.8 and Leonard was exactly three seconds back in 24:55.8.
The Raiders return to action Friday at UW-Eau Claire for the Blugold Invitational.
