MILWAUKEE - The post-season is in full swing for the Raiders. Men's Basketball starts its NACC Tournament run Wednesday while Track & Field is at the NACC Championships Saturday. Wrestling, meanwhile, heads to the NCAA West Regional Championships Saturday.
MEN'S BASKETBALL (12-12, 11-9 - W1)
Men's Basketball begins its 2017 NACC Tournament run Wednesday at Wisconsin Lutheran. The Raiders finished the season with a win at Rockford Saturday and locked themselves in as the #5 seed. They are coming off a run to the league championship game last season, winning road games at the #3 and #2 seeds on their way to a showdown with eventual national runner-up Benedictine. The Eagles await the winner of MSOE/WLC Friday.
The Track & Field teams are off to the NACC Championships this Saturday at Carthage College. Both teams went 2-0 at the UWM Panther Tune-Up last weekend. Shana Cook broke her own weight throw record for the fifth-straight meet this season and now leads the league at 50-4 3/4. Heading into the league meet, Jerica Kotarak leads the NACC in both the long and triple jumps, where she is defending champion, and Jessia Bilskie is third in the 60m hurdles. On the men's side, Austin Wright and Trey Horbinski are each ranked in the top five in a pair of events: Wright is second and Horbinski third in the mile, while Wright is third in the 3000m and Horbinski fourth in the 800m.
The Wrestling team is off to the NCAA Regional Championships Saturday. The Raiders are coming off a strong debut at the CCIW Championships two weeks ago, boasting conference champs in Devon McCune at 174 pounds and Austin Bellile at 285. Devin Mahnke also took second at 197 pounds. The top three finishers at each weight qualify for the NCAA Championships. Bellile enters the post-season ranked sixth in the nation in his weight class. McCune and Mahnke are in the next eight as "Contenders" at their weights.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (5-1, 5-0 MCVL - W5)
Men's Volleyball has now won five-straight matches after a pair of home league wins over Fontbonne and Greenville last weekend. The Raiders have dropped just one set in getting off to a 5-0 start in MCVL play this season. This weekend, they hit the road for three matches at Wittenberg, beginning Friday against Nazareth.
MEN'S TENNIS (1-6, 0-0 NACC - L3)
Men's Tennis dropped three matches last week but hung in there in a tight 6-3 loss to St. Norbert Sunday. John Price won at both #1 singles and doubles against the Green Knights and the Raiders pushed three singles matches to three sets before falling. The have a pair of matches this weekend, playing Northwestern (Minn.) Saturday in Madison and hosting St. Mary's (Minn.) Sunday.
Baseball is the first spring sport to kick off its 2017 season. The Raiders open the season Sunday in Florida with a doubleheader against St. Mary's (Minn.). Check GO-RAIDERS.com later this week for a season preview.
