MILWAUKEE – As the fall seasons are winding down, the awards are racking up. Three Raider players were named NACC Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 3, 2019, as selected by the league's sports information directors.
Topping the list for the Red & White is Blake Bostwick who held off Concordia Chicago's Thomas McNamara down the stretch to capture the men's individual crown Saturday at the 2019 NACC Cross Country Championships at Greenfield Park in West Allis, Wisconsin. Bostwick stopped the clock in 27:34.66, edging McNamara by just under one second (27:35.62). He led a contingent of six MSOE all-conference runners as the Raiders totaled 38 points, nearly half the total of 75 posted by runner-up Aurora.
The other two weekly award winners come from the soccer department, as keepers Ron Marchionna and Abbie Lorenz each locked down the honor in their individual sports. Marchionna, picked up a pair of victories in goal as the Raiders shut out Concordia Chicago, 2-0, in the regular-season finale on Oct. 30, then posted a 3-1 victory at Concordia Wisconsin in the first round of the NACC Men's Soccer Tournament on Nov. 2. He allowed just one goal while making 15 saves, including nine against the Falcons.
As for Lorenz, she did not allow a goal while making one save as MSOE recorded a pair of victories to advance to the semifinals of the NACC Women's Soccer Tournament. She played the first half against Concordia Chicago in the Raiders' regular-season finale on Oct. 30, picking up the win in a 3-0 result. Lorenz also got the start in goal in MSOE's 2-1 NACC tournament first-round win over Aurora, recording one save.
Marchionna is currently taking on #1 Dominican in the men's soccer semifinals, while Lorenz will take on the Stars tomorrow at 1:00 pm for a chance to punch their ticket to the NACC championship game. Bostwick has a little bit of time before he races next, which will be a week from Saturday at the NCAA regionals competition.
