MILWAUKEE – Sophomore Joey Schauer scored two goals and the MSOE men's soccer team posted a shutout for its sixth-straight win with a 4-0 victory over Illinois Tech Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.
The Raiders (6-2, 2-0 NACC) scored two times in each half and did not concede a shot to the Scarlet Hawks (5-3, 0-1 NACC) after halftime to seal the outcome.
Schauer and freshman Rade Novakovich continued their hot scoring streak, as Novakovich scored a goal to give the dual 16 goals during MSOE's winning streak. Each player also registered an assist on the day.
Junior Patrick Grund got the start in goal and stopped all three shots faced for his first collegiate shutout.
Schauer opened the scoring in the 21st minute, finishing off a tidy set piece for the Red & White offense. Freshman Konrad Knap took the free kick and junior Drew Baumann redirected the ball in front of the goal where Schauer was to finish the goal from point-blank range.
Novakovich quickly doubled the lead, taking a pass from Schauer and finishing from near the penalty spot just 2:33 later.
After halftime, the game was largely relegated to the midfield with MSOE scoring a 5-0 shot advantage The Raiders were on their way to seeing out the victory when Schauer struck again in the 83rd minute. Gianakos sent a driven corner kick to the far post and Schauer beat his marker to head the ball home.
Gianakos was provider again in the final minute of regulation, sending a long throw-in towards the penalty area. Novakovich flicked the ball to the far post where Kapczynski was to put the game away.
MSOE finished with a 13-6 shot advantage and 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Raiders return to action Wednesday, hosting Dominican at 7 p.m.
