Shorthanded Raiders Fall To Stars

Shorthanded Raiders Fall To Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – After a big win against Illinois Tech on Saturday afternoon, MSOE men's soccer headed into today's contest with Dominican looking to move to 4-1 in conference play. Unfortunately, a lack of offense and decisions that were made which were out of their control led to their shutout loss to the Stars on Wednesday afternoon.

MSOE – 0
Dominican – 3

You're not going to win too many ballgames when you only get one shot on goal. This was the case for MSOE (5-5-1, 3-2 NACC) this afternoon, as Joey Schauer had the lone ball that Dominican's (9-2-2, 5-0 NACC) goalkeeper had to stop. Overall the Stars outpaced the Raiders in shots 17-5. Another factor that didn't help their chances was the fact that they had to play two men down for a majority of the second half. Both Danny Bader and Lucas D'Amato were handed red cards, meaning that the Red & White were limited to just nine players on the field for the last 40 or so minutes. Dominican's Isaac Perez scored all three DU tallies as the Raiders fell 3-0 to their conference foe.

  • The Raiders were issued three yellow cards and two red cards. In comparison, the Stars were tagged with none.
  • This was the first time that Ron Marchionna has allowed three goals in a game this season.
  • The five shots that the Raiders registered this afternoon was the lowest total of the 2019 season. The same goes for shots on goal as well.

Shots – Five with one
Shots on Goal – Joey Schauer (1)
Saves – Ron Marchionna (4)

The Raiders will look to get back above the .500 mark on their current road trip when they head to Rockford for a 7:00 pm game on Saturday evening.
