FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Early on in the season MSOE men's soccer team had an issue scoring goals. Not anymore. The Raiders put up four goals again, marking the third time in their last four games they have score at least that many in a 4-2 win over the Sabres of Marian University on Wednesday evening.
MSOE – 4
Marian – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
In MSOE's (7-5-1, 5-2 NACC) 4-1 win against Rockford on Saturday night, Joey Schauer was responsible for almost every goal scored against the Regents. In tonight's game against Marian (4-9-1, 1-6) he was the offense. Schauer scored four goals tonight, including three in the first half. His first came at 7:22 off a penalty kick that found the lower right corner. He took advantage of a Sabre defensive miscue for his second at the 10' mark before finding the lower right corner again at 28:50.
Marian tried their best to come back in the second half, cutting the lead to 3-1 when they scored off a free kick early on in the period. Schauer got that goal back off another penalty kick to end the Raider scoring for the evening. The Sabres cut the lead in half with just over six minutes left to play, but couldn't do anything else, giving the Raiders the 4-2 victory. MSOE outshot the Sabres 20-7 and had four more corner kicks than their opponents in the win.
- Joey Schauer had scored five goals in his first 11 games this season. He has now scored seven in the Raiders last two contests.
- Schauer is just the third player to record four goals in a game in program history.
- Tonight's win brings the series record between the two teams to 14-0 in favor of the Red & White.
