Men's Soccer Sees Season End Against Dominican

Men's Soccer Sees Season End Against Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill – It was already an established fact that MSOE men's soccer would have a big challenge ahead of them when they stepped onto the pitch against #1 Dominican in River Forest. The NACC regular season co-champion Stars had only lost two games all season and defeated the Raiders 3-0 back on October 9th. Still the Red & White gave it everything they had, but ultimately fell short of the championship game on Tuesday afternoon.

RESULTS
#4 MSOE – 0
#1 Dominican – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
Fourth seeded MSOE (10-7-2, 7-3-1 NACC) and top seeded Dominican University (15-2-3, 10-0-1 NACC) played to a scoreless draw in the initial 45 minutes of play. Each team had their chances, but nothing that required an extraordinary effort by either Raiders keeper Ron Marchionna or his counterpart on the Stars. Both squads combined for five shots on goal, and a total of six in the half. Unfortunately, the Raiders used two of their three on target shots in the first frame, as the Dominican defense limited them to just one quality chance in the second. The game would remain a scoreless tie until the 64' when Josh Prindle scored thanks to the chaos that ensued off a corner kick, one of the nine the Stars had throughout the ballgame. While there was still over 25 minutes left on the game clock, DU did their part in controlling procession. The Raider had a few great looks as the clock winded down, including a header that went just left of the post, but the Raiders playoff run ended when the final horn sounded by the score of 1-0.
