GREEN BAY, Wis. – The fall sports season has arrived and that means the MSOE men's and women's cross-country teams were back in action for their first meet of the 2019-20 school year. Both teams headed to the Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday morning, but left with mixed results.
Women's Team – 9th out of 12 (251 points)
Men's Team – 5th out of 11 (143 points)
HOW IT HAPPENED
On the women's side, personal records fell across the board, with three different runners crossing the line in record time. But the biggest record in the 5K was just barely missed. Kendall Marks ran the course in 20:12, the second fastest time in Raider's history for a race of that distance. Both Marks and Lexi Maruga finished in the top 50, but no one was going to catch the top three teams at the race, each finishing with a team score under 100.
Strategy took precedence over results for the men's squad, as head coach Bill Massoels rested four of his best runners. Still the team ended up with a fifth-place finish, led by Nick Bath who came in 13th overall with a time of 21:36. Noah Vaculik almost crossed the finish line with a sub-22:00 race, but ended up in 20th with a time of 22:04. Once again, the top three teams each had a score of under 100, led by St. Norbert who came in with a total of 37.
WHO'S ON DECK
Both teams will be back in action in two weeks at the Spartan Classic hosted by Aurora University on September 13th at the Oakhurst Forest Preserve in Aurora, Ill.
