Raiders Pitching Can't Be Touched In Opening Win

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – There is a lot of expectations when you open up any tournament as the No. 2 seed. MSOE ignored all of them and went on to play what was arguably their best game of the season. Raiders pitching was dominate, only giving up two hits in the 2-0 opening round win on a soggy Thursday evening at Aurora University.

RESULTS
Wisconsin Lutheran – 0
MSOE Raiders – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
Goose eggs dominated the board this evening, as the first five innings were filled with nothing but zeros between Wisconsin Lutheran (22-16) and MSOE (31-10). The Warriors managed to get the first baserunner of the game on early via a walk in the top of the first, but that would be the only WLC player to reach base until the top of the fifth. The Raiders had struggles as well, with Amanda Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill. / McHenry West) being the author of the only two hits up until that same point in the contest as well for the Red & White.

Everything changed in the bottom of the sixth, however. WLC put in reigning conference pitcher of the year Abby Mahsem in the game, trying to shut down an inning that started with a Lauren Stefanczyk (Palmyra, Wis. / Palmyra-Eagle) walk. It didn't work. Emily Snow (Long Beach, Calif. / Millikan) singled to right to advance the runner, followed up Manssen reaching base on an error by the first basemen allowing the Raiders to plate the game's first run. Kim White added another crooked number to the scoreboard when she grounded out to shortstop, pushing Snow across for a 2-0 lead. WLC tried to rally in the top of the seventh, getting a runner to second for the first time all night, but was quickly shutdown, as Lorrin Pondo (Bolingbrook, Ill. / Bolingbrook) once again came on in relief to pick up a big win for the Red & White.

RAIDER REMARKS
The win this evening marks the first time that the Raiders have won a game in the NACC softball tournament since defeating Dominican 3-2 back on May 5, 2017.
