MILWAUKEE – Alverno ended the game on a 16-2 run to overcome the MSOE women's basketball team and hand it a 67-54 loss Saturday evening at Reiman Gymnasium.
The Raiders (3-3, 2-1 NACC) took a 52-51 lead with 6:48 remaining, but could not overcome the Inferno's (5-1, 4-1 NACC) late run in seeing their three-game winning streak come to an end.
Junior Ali LoBue gave the Raiders their last lead at 52-51 with a jumper before Alverno answered back with a layup on its next possession and never looked back. The home team then hit three 3-pointers down the stretch, before converting on 5-of-6 free throws during the final minute.
MSOE struggled to end the Inferno run, hitting on just one of its final 11 field goal attempts over the final six-plus minutes.
The game was back and forth from the start with neither team pulling away. The score was 33-30 Alverno at halftime and the Raiders stayed close and tied the score at 48-48 on a Sanford three-pointer. Denfeld followed with a layup for a 50-48 lead, but the Inferno answered with a three leading into LoBue's final lead change in the visitor's favor.
The Raiders shot 38.8 percent on the night, hitting 4-of-15 three-point attempts and making just 12-of-20 at the free throw line. Alverno hit nine 3-pointers on 17 attempts (.529) and finished at 42.6 percent from the field.
