Larson Reaches 1,000 In MSOE's Regular Season Finale

MILWAUKEE - Senior Shannon Larson scored 22 points to surpass 1,000 career points and lead the MSOE women's basketball team in a 77-64 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran Tuesday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (13-12, 11-9 NACC) clinched the No. 6 seed in this weekend's NACC Tournament. They will head across town to take on No. 3 Alverno Saturday at 2 p.m.

Larson is the eighth Raider to reach 1,000 points in her career, reaching the milestone with a jumper with 2:50 remaining in the game. She added seven rebounds on Senior Night and was honored alongside classmate Courtney Leaf after the game.

Freshman Margaret Pugh added 14 points for MSOE and freshman Holly Denfeld had 10 points and eight rebounds in the game.

Kristen Schulz and Brittanny Bahr each scored 17 points for the Warriors (21-3, 19-1 NACC), who won their 20th-straight game. Melanie Laete scored 15 points.

MSOE jumped out on a strong start, making its first three shots and taking an 8-4 lead. It was all WLC for the remainder of the half, as the visitors outscored the Raiders 45-18 to jump ahead 49-26 inside the final minute.

Pugh hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds, freshman Corrine Sanford stole the inbounds pass and junior Bre'Ana Strong followed with another three to make it 49-32 at the break.

The Raider defense buckled down in the second half and slowed the Warriors. Wisconsin Lutheran pushed its lead to 62-41, but MSOE rattled off a 10-2 run to pull within 13. That was as close as it would get, but  junior Ali LoBue made that the final deficit when she scored five of her six points in the final seconds.

She converted a three-point play, then stole the inbounds pass and hit another layup to cap the game's scoring.

MSOE shot a 40 percent for the game, while WLC hit 50.9 percent of its shots. The Raiders limited the Warriors to just 38.1 percent shooting after halftime to counter-balance a 59.4 shooting clip in the first half.
