WATERTOWN, Wisconsin – Junior Kayla Barreto scored 14 points and came up with five steals in the MSOE women's basketball team's 68-57 loss to Maranatha Saturday night on the road.
The Raiders (10-9) led 26-25 at halftime before the Sabercats (6-6) outscored them 27-7 in the third quarter to seize control of the game.
Barreto knocked down four 3-pointers in the game and dished out three assists in leading the team. Senior Jamie Spanbauer added 10 points while three other players tallied six points in senior Samantha Brooker, junior Brooke Scott, and sophomore Lexi Maruga.
Four players scored in double-digits for Maranatha, led by Callie Morrison's 15 points. Jacklyn Simpson had 14, Kelsey Johnson 12, and Rosa Torres chipped in 13 off the bench.
MSOE came out of the gates strong, opening a six-point lead in each of the first two quarters, only to see the hosts rally back within one possession each time. The Raiders jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first seven minutes but settled for a 12-11 advantage at the first intermission. They then opened the next quarter on an 8-3 run to take a 20-14 lead before the game evened out.

The Sabercats jumped on MSOE out of intermission, scoring the first 13 points of the second half to take the lead for good and seize momentum in the contest. They capped the frame with 12 of the final 14 points to open a 52-33 lead going into the final quarter.
The Raiders did rally late but it was too late. A Johnson three-pointer made it 62-44 with 3:34 remaining. The Red & White did not allow another field goal the rest of the game while putting together a 13-6 run to close out the game.
MSOE shot 38.8 percent from the field and connected on just 7-of-24 three-point attempts. The team also converted on 12-of-14 free throws. MBU shot an even 50 percent for the night, which included 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. The hosts also got to the free throw line 26 times, making 19.
The Raiders return to the court Wednesday, hosting Lakeland at Hotchkin Arena.
