MILWAUKEE – After a rough first outing to start the season, the MSOE women's basketball team hit the court to try and improve on their initial performance. There were signs of progress all across the board, but not enough to prevent Millikin from coming away with the win on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee.
Millikin – 68
MSOE – 51
HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoring was hard to come by in the first quarter, with only 23 points scored between the two teams. In fact, neither MSOE (0-2) nor Millikin (3-0) got into double digits until 2:01 left in the opening frame. The Raiders weren't as fast as the Big Blue to get their shooters hot, giving them a seven-point deficit to start off with after one. That changed in the second quarter however, with MSOE scoring 14 points, only two less than Millikin. Unfortunately, the Raiders weren't able to make up any ground, as Millikin proceeded to outscore them by eight in the second half. One positive was the fact that the Red & White stayed competitive and scored a game high 19 points in the final ten minutes. Britta Grayvold turned around her poor shooting performance from the season opener to post 17, while the team as a whole shot 37.2 percent, almost ten percent better from the field than their game last week against Lake Forest. It was the four Big Blue players that scored in double figures that really hurt that Raiders however, sending them to their second loss to open the 2019-20 season.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will hop into conference play for the first time next weekend, taking on Rockford inside Hotchkin Arena next Saturday at 6:15 pm.
