FOND DU LAC, Wisconsin – Four different players scored second-half goals to lead the MSOE women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Marian Wednesday evening at Smith Field.
The Raiders (6-7, 3-2 NACC) fell behind in just the fifth minute and trailed the Sabres (5-7, 2-3 NACC) 1-0 at halftime before storming back in the second half.
Sophomore Gabby Hoffman netted the equalizer just 2:13 after halftime. Freshman Jill Ruark scored the eventual winner and MSOE received insurance goals from freshman Veronica Mangio and junior Jeray Riffel.
It was a tale of the two halves for the Raiders as they outshot Marian 18-4 in pursuit of the win. Mangio set up Hoffman's first goal, playing her through into the box. Hoffman then beat the keeper from 10 yards.
Ruark followed with the go-ahead goal in the 56th minute, powering a shot off the keeper's hands and into the net.
Hoffman returned the favor to Mangio, setting up the third goal in the 64th minute. Hoffman played a chip into the box that Mangio deposited in the corner. Riffel then capped the scoring with an unassisted blast from 10 yards out in the 76th minute.
MSOE finished with a 27-11 shot advantage, putting 16 attempts on target in the match. They also forced twice the number of corner kicks as the opposition, 6-3.
The Raiders have won back-to-back matches and return to the field Saturday at Wisconsin Lutheran.
