KENOSHA, Wis. – Cierra Smith (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and Leah Becker (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption) both forced extra games in one of their singles matchups, but the MSOE Raiders were unable to win a set in their 9-0 loss to Carthage on Saturday afternoon.
Carthage dominated play this afternoon, taking all nine matches in regulation. It started off with doubles completion, as the Lady Reds didn't allow the Raiders to get anything going. The team of Kim Baffin (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) and Becker came the closest to a victory, but still fell 3-8. Katie Clements (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) and Smith lost 1-8, while Sammy Soeder (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) and Hannah Marron (Downers Grove, Ill./North) were blanked 0-8.
Unfortunately, things did not improve when the action went to the singles format. The Red & White faced 0-6 single set losses in four of their six matches, with only Smith (5-7, 1-6) and Becker (5-7, 0-6) getting close to winning against their Carthage counterparts. Rounding up the rest of the singles scores, Soeder (0-6, 1-6), Marron (1-6, 3-6), Clements (1-6, 0-6) and Olivia Boden (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) (1-6, 0-6) were all defeated in straight sets.
The Raiders will look to get back on the winning track next weekend after back to back loses, playing Dubuque on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
