DUBUQUE, Iowa – MSOE women's tennis headed into their second to last match of the season this morning against the University of Dubuque looking to snap their two-game skid. The women did just that thanks to some dominate matches to send them back to Milwaukee with a 6-3 win over the home team
University of Dubuque was playing shorthanded this afternoon, automatically give the Raiders wins in the No. 3 spot in doubles, as well as the No. 5 and No. 6 spots in singles. Even with those wins, the Red & White still had to go out and battle for the overall victory and did so in style. While the team of Sammy Soeder (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) and Hannah Marron (Downers Grove, Ill./North) dropped the No. 1 spot in doubles play, Cierra Smith (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and Katie Clements (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) easily secured the No. 2 spot, winning their match 8-1.
It was all or nothing in singles action for MSOE, seeing mixed results in the four matches played. Soeder and Marron once again dropped their two matched 6-3, 5-7 and 6-4, 6-2 respectively, but were picked up by their teammates to secure their eighth win of the season. Both Smith and Clements easily cruised to individual victories with Smith winning 6-2, 6-0 and Clements not allowing her opponent a single game with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
The ladies will now look towards their last competition of the season on April 30th against Marian to work on any adjustments before breaking for the summer. The match, which will be an away contest, has a time that is yet to be announced.
