Lessons Learned In First Triathlon Of Season

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. – It was an extremely busy opening weekend for MSOE Athletics, as seven different programs kicked off their season. Wrapping up the three days of action was the Raiders triathlon team, who like everyone else, were participating in their first event of the new school year. Though the conditions were less than ideal, the understaffed team turned in a strong race that served as a learning lesson to the young squad at the Central Regional Qualifier

4th out of 5 teams (40 points)

Rachel Ruona was the only participant to break the top-20, but she did so in fashion. Ruona crossed the finish line with a time of 1:09:39, easily securing fifth place and finishing just over 30 second away from the overall winner from Trine University.

  • The Red & White were not at full strength for their first event, as one of the regulars to gather at the starting line did not compete while the other was pulled during the run portion of the morning's contest.
  • Two Raiders experienced their first ever triathlon, while three others were participating in their first draft legal events.
  • Rain was present for almost the entire event, adding another level of difficulty to the bike circuit, while providing slick conditions to run in as well.

Up next for the Lady Raiders will be the Trine Triple Sprint Triathlon on September 14th in Fremont, Ind. Start time is schedule for 7:45 am.
