MILWAUKEE – MSOE women's volleyball kicked off this years MSOE Invitational this evening in Hotchkin Arena, welcoming both Benedictine and Augustana to the Kern Center. Although the night ended with the Raiders holding a 0-2 record, they could have easily been 2-0 after two tough defeats in front of a lively crowd.
Benedictine – 25, 25, 25
MSOE – 23, 22, 24
Augustana – 26, 11, 25, 16, 15
MSOE – 24, 25, 18, 25, 12
HOW IT HAPPENED
To know how game one could have gone MSOE's (1-4) way, all you have to do is look at the box score. Kills, errors, digs, and total attacks were almost identical between the Raiders and Benedictine (2-2). It was the attack percentage that probably made the difference. The Raiders hit .143 compared to the Eagles .226. The Red & White actually held a 10-3 lead early on in the first set but couldn't hold on down the stretch. The second and third sets were as back and forth as could possibly be, but sometimes it's a call here or there that will cost you a match, this time by the score of 3-0.
Augustana (2-4) and MSOE battled back and forth again in the second match of the night, although it wasn't as even as the first contest was. Each team took their turns beating on one another, with the final scores of each set not being that close, expect for the deciding fifth frame. Neither team hit particularly well, and once again all the important statistics were virtually the same. MSOE just couldn't put a solid run together, dropping their first five setter of the season 3-2.
WHO'S ON DECK
