MILWAUKEE – MSOE women's volleyball was looking like they were going to take home a three-set victory against the Eagles of Edgewood this evening. Up two games to none, the NACC foes played as close as any two teams possibly could. However, it was the Eagles that were able to pull out the victory in a heartbreaking loss for the Raiders on Friday night inside Hotchkin Arena.
Edgewood – 3 (20, 24, 26, 25, 15)
MSOE – 2 (25, 26, 24, 23, 10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
It cannot be stressed enough how evenly matched these two opponents were this evening. Just looking at the stats would tell you that. MSOE (7-14, 2-4 NACC) and Edgewood (7-14, 5-2 NACC) had the same number of digs in the ballgame (74), while only three assists separated the two team totals. The two NACC schools were almost dead even in total attacks as well with Edgewood holding the slight 170-166 advantage.
MSOE won the first set with relative ease, making the Eagles pay for the nine errors they committed during the first frame. The five-point margin of victory would be the largest in any of the full sets, with only six points being the total combined margin of defeat or victory in the next three. The Red & White pulled off an impressive comeback in the second set, storming back from 15-20 to secure their second victory by the score of 26-24. Things took a turn for the worst from here on out. After coming back the set prior, the Eagles did the same to the home team, turning a four-point deficit into a 26-24 win of their own. The Raiders also let a five-point lead slip away from them in set four before playing from behind to lose the fifth and deciding game 15-10.
- The Red & White had two players with 17 or more assists in tonight's contests, as well as four that register at least 12 digs.
- Though they came so, so close to victory this evening, the Raiders have not been able to defeat the Eagles in the last 12 contests where the two teams have faced off.
WHO'S ON DECK
